Great White shark washes ashore on Florida’s Navarre Beach

A dead Great White shark washed ashore on Navarre Beach in the Florida Panhandle, according to multiple media outlets and local officials.

Navarre Beach Fire Rescue was notified of the shark shortly after 7 a.m. Friday, according to WEAR in Pensacola. Also responding to the scene were Santa Rosa County personnel and Gulf World Marine Institute.

The shark was measured at about 13 feet and estimated to weigh about 1,500 pounds.

There were indications the shark may have been pregnant, but that won’t be confirmed until an investigation is conducted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

What killed the shark is also undetermined. The South Santa Rosa News noted the shark did not have any visible scars or “prop marks.”

Once NOAA completes its investigation, the shark will be removed from the beach. Until then, that area has been blocked off.
